Last year's deer-hunting season ended Jan. 15 with the Missouri Department of Conservation reporting a preliminary total harvest of 290,339 deer. Of the deer harvested, 136,776 were antlered bucks, 30,116 were button bucks, and 123,447 were does.

The woods filled with hunter orange Saturday as the start of the 10-day fall firearms season began across the state. Hunters flock to the county, which annually is one of the top deer producing areas in the state.
