50 YEARS AGO — Band instructor Fred Barnhill visits with four sixth grade girls learning to play the clarinet. The quartet of second-year band members, from left: Tammy Broce, Erin Baucum, Cindy Davis and Lee Ann McKinney. Instruction of musical instruments will start with fifth graders in September, Barnhill said. The size of the high school's concert band has doubled in the last three years to about 50 members.
