The Texas County Dutch Oven Cookers hosted a demonstration on Monday, Oct. 10, at Pond Trail Farm Guesthouse in Houston. A diverse variety of dishes were cooked up and shared with attendees. Several selections had a German theme in honor of Pond Trail co-owner Barbara Hughes heritage. LEFT: Jim Kidwell stands behind a steaming hot batch of braised red German cabbage. CENTER: Jim Eckley holds a plate of pork loin schnitzel and seasoned noodles and cabbage. RIGHT: Bob Roach takes the lid off of a batch of broccoli and ham casserole. The trio made another appearance last Saturday at the third annual Festival of Yesteryear at Raymondville, and will cook at the Spring Hill Pumpkin Patch in Bendavis this Saturday and be part of an event on Veterans Day (Friday, Nov. 11) at the Houston Rural Fire Department station on Walnut Street in downtown Houston. Donations received by the Cookers are annually distributed to various community organizations.
